Collage

These collages are simple paper cutouts using art paper, construction paper and various selections from books, magazines, calendars and as well as sorted patterned paper. Although collage is a two-dimensional art form, I approach it with a sculptor’s eye – using my scissors to cut shapes like a chisel, to reveal line and express form. Piecing together paper gives me the additional opportunity to use color to make relationships between forms, to heighten and explore distinctions as one does in paintings.

My Tarot Series collages is an ongoing project that I started two years ago. It is my intention to create 22 collages – my interpretations of the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck; a culmination of my lifelong interest in the mystery and wisdom of the Tarot, Exploring the symbolism and rich imagery of the Tarot and finding ways to express my interpretation of the cards, is a fascinating and inspiring journey both as an artist and as individual seeking meaning and purpose.
