Stone Sculpture

What is primary for me as a stone sculptor is to express and explore the essential movement within the stone. Of course, there is a basic contradiction of creating from a solid three-dimensional form something that moves and breathes. That is the challenge and the mystery for me as an artist.  It underlies my exploration as a sculptor, as I aim to create works that have intrinsic flow, that shape the space.  At the same time, I want my sculptures to express a poetic sensibility, an essential meaning. Basically, I am hoping to create sculptures that fundamentally “move” – resonating in body and mind, heart and eye.  What lies beneath the surface, hidden at its core, then revealed through the movement of the stone. It is this process that intrigues and informs my creative work. And ultimately, this is the vision that I am hoping to share with the viewer.
